Bloomfield Township, officially named the Charter Township of Bloomfield, is located in Oakland County, Michigan, just west of Troy on the north side of Metro Detroit. The entire township covers 25 square miles of land, almost completely surrounding the city of Bloomfield Hills.
Organized in 1827, Bloomfield was first township to be established in the county. The Township today houses a population of more than 41,000 people across multiple unincorporated communities, including Bloomfield Village, Charing Cross and Oak Grove. Oakland Hills Country Club sits within Bloomfield Township, host to many professional golf events, including six U.S. Opens and the 2004 Ryder Cup. The township is also home to the Detroit Skating Club, where a number of world-class figure skaters have trained.
